Focus on Social Justice
There are people worldwide that are experiencing violations to their human rights. Many people are unaware of the struggles that others experience. This unit will focus on students identifying current issues in our world today and spread awareness of this issue.
Enduring Understanding
Students are researching human rights violations in our world today. They are developing empathy for others in our world.
Social Justice Learning
Students will explore human rights issues around the world and choose a topic that they want to become experts at. Students will then add their group members and topic to a google doc. Each group will need to have a different topic. Students will then be given a graphic organizer that guides them on their research of the topic that they need to complete. After the graphic organizer is complete, students will then plan on how they want to educate their peers and the public on their topic of choice. After the community gallery walk, students will write a 1-2 page reflection about what they learned and areas of their topic need further study to assess their learning.
