The Paloma Project aims to spread awareness of current human rights violations in our world today. In this Integrated Thematic Unit, students will do guided research in their history class to learn more about a human rights issue. They will create a form of art that represents their findings and use mathematics to dilate this art to a poster to be displayed in an exhibit that is open to other students, parents, and the community.
For Students: This site will contain all the handouts you receive in your classes. If you prefer to submit digital copies, you can open them from the site under the Graphic Organizers and then share them via your Google Drive.
For Educators: This two-week thematic unit focuses on history and geometry. The Educators tab above has subpages that include the rationale, unit calendar, and assessment plan. Additionally, there is information on how this unit uses cooperative learning, technology, art, and service learning. Please see the Differentiation tab to see how the unit can be differentiated for all types of learners. If you are interested in doing The Paloma Project or something similar at your school, feel free to open and copy the graphic organizers to make changes. Also, please contact us with any questions, comments, or suggestions. We look forward to becoming aware of the human rights violations your students learn about.
For Parents and the Community: When asked to define Human Rights, many struggle to come up with a clear definition of what exactly human rights are. During this unit, students are learning about The Human Rights and spread awareness of current human rights violations in our world. We will be hosting an exhibit open to the community where students will be displaying their art. Please join us in becoming aware of the human rights issues in our world today.
